We Are Simply Three Guys Who Care
The three of us originally became friends through sports in kindergarten. We have always been motivated when it came to sports and academics, but never truly felt a need to take the lead in our community. Truth be told, our mindset when it came to helping out in the community was that “there will always be other people to do that.” When COVID-19 struck the world by surprise, we didn’t know what to think of it at first. However, when we heard there were doctors working on patients without protective gear which was in short supply, we knew there had to be a way we could help.
Nick was the initial team member to feel inspired because his aunt Dr. Jennifer McNeil, a surgeon at a hospital with a minimal supply of N-95 masks, was at risk. Jack quickly joined the call-to-action when he learned that his sister´s best friend was worried about her dad, an emergency medicine doctor in San Francisco whose staff was running out of masks. James felt truly empowered to help make change when he remembered that his grandmother had a basement full of sewing supplies. Athena, Jack’s sister, had already developed a business plan to make and sell fabric masks after the California wildfires, but because she was already committed to another project, she was eager to pass the baton to her brother and his friends while participating as the investor funding the project.
Each of our moms taught us the step-by-step process in sewing masks, and we were well on our way.
Before this journey, we thought COGS were shoes worn by the Dutch! Now we are highly aware of unit costs (COGS—cost of goods sold), and how the three business functions—Operations, Revenue (Sales & Marketing), and Design (Research & Development)—have to work together constantly and iteratively to make a business work. Best of all, we know the importance of striving for something with people you love, your family and best friends, to achieve a goal that benefits others. Thanks again for your support as we learn and work hard to be a part of something together, bigger than ourselves.
Love your community, wherever you are.
